Blink Of An Eye

I told you I was going to write a song on my Tenor guitar…. Now I have written 2 and I have even recorded one! I still don’t know how to play it properly though so I think some serious work is required!

The song I recorded is called “Blink Of An Eye” and I honestly think it is the most beautiful thing I have ever created. The song was written in the aftermath of the suicides of Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington and is about a struggle with mental health and the challenge of getting through the night in the darkest of times.

Chris Cornell (1964 - 2017)

Chris Cornell was an absolute hero of mine. A great songwriter who played in two unique bands (as well as his solo music) who was defined by probably the greatest voice I have heard. His versatility in range are unmatched, even by other great singers on the grunge scene. This is a little unfair on the likes of Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley and Scott Weiland but Chris Cornell had something truly special and will be hugely missed.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Linkin Park but their music had formed a soundtrack to my teenage years as it was always playing in pubs and clubs so I had known about Chester’s brilliant voice for some time. It had always been clear through his lyrics that he had struggled with a number of things in his life but the thing that struck me the most about his death was the fact that he felt he couldn’t go on without his friend Chris.

Chester Bennington (1976 – 2017)

I hope that the song does these two men justice and offers a beacon of hope to anyone who is struggling.
