An T-Eilean Sgitheanach

At 5am on a rainy and cold October morning, I dragged myself out of bed bleary eyed and shambled, zombie esque to the van. Ahead was 9 hours of solid driving, so most likely a 12 hour journey North to a place so remote than when you search on the UK version of google maps, the first names that appear are American cities…

We had been rehearsing over the previous few months for a triple headlined show on the Isle of Skye in which we would all collaborate on each other’s music. Sounds simple right?

Not quite…. It involved learning 2 entirely new sets so around 12 songs!

Soundcheck for one of John Reed’s songs at Bhàrtairnis Hall. The Drovers Trail

Why Skye?

Why not? If you have never been, it is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Performing Green Man by Matt Steady on Cajon

In general, I try to get north of the border as often as possible as I feel completely at home in Scotland and love to get up in the mountains and forests. I also am currently learning to speak Gaelic in the hope that the language and culture doesn’t die out as well so I was hoping to run into some locals to practice on.

With Steve Clarke outside Cuilin FM

Our main show was to be in a hall in Bhàtairnis (Waternish in English) and we were due to appear on Cuillin FM based in Port Righ (Portree in English) the day after.

The Road Live at Bhàrtainis
